This is the concrete snowshed on the Iron Goat Trail. The Iron Goat Trail follows the route of an abandoned railroad line. From 1893 to 1929 this was the route of the Great Northern Railway. This view is of the east end of the snowshed, looking out from the showshed to the east, located at what was once the town of Wellington, Washington. On March 1, 1910 a massive avalanche fell on two trains and the detached cars of a third train at this location. 96 people were killed by that avalanche. This snowshed was constructed in 1911 to protect against a recurrence. Photo was taken on August 17, 2008 by Melissa Logstrom.
